This excursion sets out to cross the backwoods between the Muonio and Ounas rivers to the Harriniva Holiday Centre at the riverside of Muonio river. During this one-day journey of about 70 kilometres, we'll enjoy lunch by the fire and stop at Lake Särkijärvi to get acquainted with artist Veli Koljonen's exhibition depicting the nature of Lapland. At our destination, Harriniva, we'll relax in the sauna, try winter swimming, enjoy dinner and sleep comfortably in hotel rooms.
Following breakfast, our Huskyland dog-team guide shall greet us and introduce us to the community life of approximately two hundred Alaskan and Siberian huskies, Samoyeds and Greenland dogs. After we're familiarized with the habits and inclinations of these dogs, our guide will assemble the dog-sled teams for a 9-kilometre trek. We'll drive a sled with one to two passengers each in turns, guiding from behind. After the ride, we'll enjoy lunch in the Holiday Centre restaurant and then drive back to Äkäslompolo. Along the way, we'll stop for a snack at rustic Äkäs-Mill.
