How about this for a family's sports day with a difference: a couple of hours spent on a frozen lake in the spring sunshine fishing for perch and whitefish followed by a sizzling sauna and a breath-taking dip in a hole in the ice?

We leave Äkäslompolo by car and drive for about a quarter of an hour to our chosen lake, spend an hour or two fishing there, fortify ourselves with coffee and smoked reindeer on local bread, and spend the rest of the time sauna-ing and swimming to our hearts' content.

When we feel ready for whatever the evening may have in store, we drive back to Äkäslompolo.

The trip will take about 3,5 hours. Price 87 € per person, which includes the guidance, return trip by car from Äkäslompolo to Luosu, fishing programme, sauna and snack. Minimum 4 persons.
