The first Finns are known to have come to Äkäslompolo to fish. Hundreds of years ago the lake was already providing whitefish and trout for the local peasants in winter. In the olden days people fished to keep hunger from the door, but nowadays it is the thrill of the catch that motivates people to get out on the ice.

Rainbow trout can also be caught in addition to the indigenous species in the lakes supervised by the Finnish Forest and Park Service. Enough perch to make a fish soup can be caught in any lake, but the crafty fisherman can, if lucky, hope to land quite a sizeable whitefish.

The number of stars after the name of the tour indicates the level: one star means it is suitable for anyone, five that you need to be in fairly good physical condition in addition to having a rugged thirst for adventure.

At the start of each snowmobile safari participants will be supplied with safety instructions and taught how to handle their machines. The loan of warm snowmobile clothing and helmets is included in the price. Participants can select a meal from our excellent menu.

Everyone is driving on his/hers own risk. If something happens to the snowmobiles and damages exceed  550 € the maximum amount paid by the customer will be that 550 €. The rest is paid by our insurance company. When you take part to the guided safari you will have a possibility to avoid the self risk by paying the special 8 euros "no risk" fee per person (only for week program safaris).. 
Children under 15 years will get 30 % discount when sharing the snowmobile with an adult. If there is included in the programme something else than snowmobiling, the age to get discount will be 12 years..
