Hiking with the reindeers! *

On our day trip to Muonio`s Torasieppi reindeer farm, we get acquainted thoroughly with the reindeer farming history and today. At first we explore the main building and a small museum that introduces reindeer farming as a source of livelihood, we get to feed the reindeers and drink a cup of coffee in a Lapp hut.

After the reindeers have been harnessed, we take off to a hiking trip of about 2,5 kilometers toward a small lake. While we fish, pick berries or mushrooms, the Lapp wife will prepare us a delicious meal made out of traditional Lapland delicacies. We return back by hiking while the reindeers carry our equipment.

Nature trail to the magig thiefs valley **

Varkaankuru, a gully formed by an earthquake a long time ago, has been protected years ago from the human hands and chainsaws because of the very special nature. A well sheltered little brook in a grove maintains a special fauna. We get up to Ylläs fell by a car to explore a nature exhibition at the nature center of Kellokas.

Afterwards we start a 8 km´s hiking trip through Varkaankuru gorge and around the Kesänki lake. Back to the hotel we go by a car and also we get to enjoy a meal on our way back.

The hiking nature trail of Aakenus ****

Definitely the most interesting fell in the Ylläs area as far as the nature goes is Aakenus. On the horseshoe shaped fell slopes there is a 17 kilometer long nature trail that presents very impressing fell scenery, versatile geology of the nature and rapidly disappearing natural means of livelihood.

Mountain sight seeing tour ***

Getting  up from the shore of the Kesänki lake to the top of the fell through a passage called “ Pirunkuru “, is the peak experience of many visitors whether it is done in the summer- or winter time.  We start our definitely sweat breaking trip from the shore of the lake Kesänki, climb over the Kesänki hill to Tahkokuru for lunch, and continue down to Äkäslompolo.

During the 8 km trip we get acquainted with the geology of the area, and explore the policies of the reindeer area. Duration about 4,5 hours. Price 52 € per person including guidance and lunch. Min. 4 persons.
